Ayakano Koto features the austere and haunting koto playing of Ayakano Cathleen Read She began studying Yamada School koto music in 1969. On Jan. 7, 1974 she became the first non-Japanese to join the shachu(musicians guild) of Nakanoshima Kin'ichi.She is adjunct professor in the music dept. of Tufts University. The koto is a traditional Japanese instrument with a long neck and rectangular sound box. It has thirteen strings and adjustable bridges to change the pitch of various strings. Koto music is perfect background for elegant corporate events, or gallery openings. There is also a highly formalized traditional wedding program available.
