Panneubean Steel

Raised on Cape Cod, Musician/Artist Jefferey Clayton (Music Director, Music Educator),

founded PanNeubean Steel to share his passion for music.  His love-passion for his
Jamaican heritage and the quality of PanNeubean Steel is evident through his
enthusiasm, initiative and dedication to professionalism.  Showcasing the Steelpan's
versatility in Caribbean (reggae, soca, calypso), Afro-Caribbean, Contemporary, Jazz,
Fusion and Classical music styles is the essence of PanNeubean Steel.

Clayton's musical, steelpan, adventure began when he enlisted
into the United States Army as a trumpet player.  This is
where he was first featured as a trumpet player and soon
highlighted as a steelpannist.  After three active years in the
military he obtained a Bachelors of Arts degree in Sociology
from the University of Massachusetts @ Amherst, where he
concentrated on social equality in hope of providing greater
opportunity for those who are less fortunate.  Clayon then
obtained a Masters Degree in Music Education from the
New England Conservatory of Music because he felt that all
children should be provided with the chance to express
themselves musically.  (Clayton is Massachusetts Music
Teacher Certified/k-12.)  As a young child he suffered
hearing loss.  When he regained his hearing, music became his
creative outlet.  With music Clayton found his voice and many
opportunities.  Music has opened many doors, allowing him to
view and speak of the world with broader awareness.

The Steelpan is Clayton's chosen instrument because of its historic traditions and its
uniqueness.  The Steelpan originated from the people of Trinidad and Tobago.  Originally
hand-made from discarded oil drums left by the U.S. Navy, many of today's Steelpans are
made for professional use.  The Steelpan has become a symbol.  It represents the
overcoming of social oppression of slavery and government.  Today the Steelpan sings of
vocal freedom

Clayton has had the privilege of performing with Calypsonian, Reggae and Soca Legends:
Shadow, The Mighty King Barron, The Mighty Duke, Ronnie McIntosh, Iwer
George, Rupee, Denise Belfon, Sparrow and Johnny King.

He has shared the stage with:  Stephen Marley, Max Roach, The Duke Ellington Band
and Chris Vadala.  He has also traveled as a Music Ambassador to Germany and the
Netherlands (Holland) and performed for the President of the United States, Vice
President, Colin Powell, Nets, Bruins, Yankee's and World Cup Games.

Most Recently PanNeubean Steel shared the stage with Bruce Hornsby and was the
concert opener for Kenny Chesney and Jimmy Buffet at the Tweeter Center, Boston, MA.
**********************************
PanNeubean Steel is committed to the music and the continued awareness and versatility of
the Steelpan and its ability to provide "...An Oasis of Musical Moods...".    PanNeubean
Steel hopes that it's energetic, and positive attitude, empathy, esteem-enhancing
approach, and professionalism serve as a model for all adults and children.  Maintaining a
high standard of musical and personal excellence is the key to providing an unforgettable
fun and entertaining event.

215th Army Band - Pan Quest - 2008

Panneubbean Steel was excellent! We had them as the featured performers during a Caribbean travel event in our office on August 24th. The band was on time and those who attended our event loved the music. It was just what event needed!

"I wish to express what a pleasure it was to work with PanNeubean Steel for our May 26, 2007 wedding!  We had a

classy, tropical themed wedding so we requested a duo to play at both the ceremony and cocktail hour.  Working with
Jefferey Clayton was a delight-we did most of our contacts by email starting last June.  Whenever I had a question, he
was quick to email me back and we had a few phone conversations to finalize everything in the weeks leading to the
wedding.

What he came up with and played completely surpassed my expectations.  The ceremony went so smoothly and the
music sounded amazing in the large cathedral church.  People were commenting all day about our ceremony music and
how great it was.  Although neither myself nor my husband were at the cocktail hour to hear the music, guests were
raving about the band.  They said it was wonderful to walk into the reception hall and really feel like they could have been
on an island in the Caribbean.  Overall, the guests' enjoyment of PanNeubean Steel is still one of the highlights we hear
most about our big day.  Thank you Jeff for a wonderful addition to our amazing wedding day!"

"This is a long overdue thank you for infusing our wedding on August 20, 2006 with such great music and spirit.  From
the saxophone to the vocals, we were blown away by the quality and magic you guys created.
Our guests said they have never been so compelled to dance at a wedding as they were when PanNeubean Steel played
their dead-on renditions of reggae and calypso classics.  You did such a great job getting people involved and just
smiling on that dance floor.  Most special for us, was when you began the night with "Waiting in Vain" for our first dance
and did such a spectacular job.  Thank you, Thank you.  We hope to be invited to a wedding that you guys are playing
or at least come up with an event to hire the band for."

"I first heard PanNeubean Steel at my mother's wedding and we all thought they were absolutely amazing.  They played
exactly what the crowd wanted to hear and they got nothing but compliments.  So when my friends went looking for a
band for their big day, of course I recommended PanNeubean Steel.  It worked out fabulously!  This wedding brought
together an entirely different group of people and the band's sound still suited the party perfectly.  Excellent
performance!  Beautifully mellow or flat-out rocking, PanNeubean Steel's broad range of styles is sure to include
something that everyone will enjoy."

"Thank you for helping to create a wonderful day for us!  Your performance was outstanding, captivating and magical.
We will never forget this experience for the rest of our lives.  Special thanks to your saxophonist who came through
with those special last minute requests that really made all the difference in the world."
DONandMIKE'S WEDDING

"Back in the spring of this past year we started looking for a band for my sister's 50th birthday party.  Reggae music
was what we were after since she had lived in the Caribbean and loved that type of music.  I scoured the internet
searching for information about New England Reggae groups.  I came across PanNeubean Steel on a beautifully
designed, professional and informative site.  We hired them for the event after sampling the music on-line.

The day of the party the weather was less than perfect.  In fact it was a torrential downpour.  Since we had the party in
a tent on the beach, less than 15 feet from the ocean, you could only imagine our anxiety.  Soon after we set up, Jeff
Clayton came on the scene and proceeded with a very professional, positive attitude.  He put our minds at ease.  The
music started and the guests immediately began dancing and didn't stop all night.  We all soon forgot about the
conditions outside of the tent and began to lose ourselves in the wonderful music of PanNeubean Steel.

Many of the guests were asking where we found this incredible band.  This very talented group was the highlight of the
event.  Thank you...thank you for making our evening a most memorable one!  We would not hesitate and look forward
to using PanNeubean Steel again."

"We were delighted with PanNeubean Steel at our wedding in June.  Your very friendly band energized all to the grass to
dance!  The warm weather was a perfect match for your Caribbean Island Sound and what a fine sound you made.
Regards..."
