Classic rock band vs classic funk and r&b at a wedding

Published October 24th, 2016 by Devteam

I'm currently working with a client who is looking for something in a wedding band that they can't quite convey. A style of music that they're sure they'll know it when they hear it. Which is pretty nebulous. So with suggestions and prodding I finally figured out that they were looking for a funky r and b classic hits band, but with an edge. Meaning they don't play all of the standard wedding repertoire, but stick to a specific style, and even play some less recognizable music, which is always tricky at weddings.

The trick then is to find a band that is unique but not so unique that they don't work steadily. A working band is a tight band. Working bands have the best players and more importantly the best singers.

Another problem is that it's a busy wedding date. Several bands I might have suggested are already booked. That narrows the field even more.

At this point, it looks like getting this client out to hear a band live quickly is the best course of action. I found a couple of bands that fit the bill. I'll try and update you.

Wish me luck!
